Brief
To design and fabricate the hardware required to house the sensors required for FiveAI to run their vehicles autonomously. 8 roof boxes in total were needed.

The sensor field of view analysis and optimization was my first task on the project. I hoped that there would be a useful tool online to do this but couldn't find one. Therefore, I developed my own solution within the Unreal Engine platform. This allowed me to see what the cameras were going to see, and by writing a quick and dirty path tracing script, I could highlight any blind spots.
The final task was to manage the build process of the 8 prototypes. Most of the tubs were GRP, but due to time constraints, the first one needed a different approach. Our suppliers out in China offered a service where they would machine it out of ABS and plastic weld the parts together. The result was perfect. This fabrication method was one to remember for future projects such as work completed for Arrival.
