Unreal Engine

I was tasked early into my time at DCA with working out how we can do Virtual Reality (VR). I had made a game using the Unity game engine prior to starting at DCA, and therefore, had some of the skills required already.

I started playing around with Unity to begin with, but found much better results using Unreal Engine, another game engine. From them on, it was a case of working out how to handle the massive datasets from programs like Catia, and learning all the subtleties of making it run at a buttery smooth 90Hz.

Once I had the basics nailed, I started playing around with Mixed Reality, bringing in real world items into the scene. You can see an example of this from one of the MRI scanners we designed, but I've also taken this as far as to have a drivable tractor.

Whilst creating VR scenes, the files I produced leant themselves nicely to rendering. As I am always keen to learn new skills, I relished these opportunities to develop in other areas. The images below show some of the renderings and VR scenes I've produced whilst at DCA.
